Online Baccarat is
one of the most popular casino games, and although it holds
a certain air of glamour, it is actually very simple to
play. There are no decisions to be made as winning is based
purely on chance. In a similar way to Blackjack, where the
object is to get as close to 21, in the Baccarat game the
object is to get as close to 9 as possible. When dealt a
hand that totals more than 10, 10 is always subtracted,
therefore the value of a Baccarat hand is always between
0 and 9.
To begin the game,
both the Baccarat player and dealer are dealt two cards
each face down. If the value of the hand is 8 or 9 the cards
MUST be shown immediately and the other player must also
do the same. The winner is the Baccarat player with the
highest value i.e. nearest to a 9. Tied 9's or tied 8's
mean no money changes hands (unless ties can be bet on,
although this is thought of to be a bad bet as the house
edge is very high in this situation).
If neither Baccarat
player nor banker has an 8 or a 9, the player stands on
a total of 6 or 7, but if the total is less than 5, the
player must request another card face-up. In the bankers
case, he always plays after the player and must stand on
a total of 7. The bankers actions are detailed in the chart
